How to Prepare a Room for a Plasterer
Short answer
Before a plasterer arrives, clear the room as much as possible, strip wallpaper, remove fittings and coverings that are coming off anyway, make sure there is water and power available, and confirm that any electrical or plumbing work has been finished first.
Your checklist
Not everything is essential, but each item on this list saves time on the day.
- Move furniture out, or into the centre of the room
- Take down curtains, blinds, shelves and pictures
- Strip wallpaper — plaster needs a sound, stable surface
- Remove old tiles, panelling or coving that is not staying
- Finish first fix electrics and plumbing before plastering
- Lift or protect carpets and delicate flooring
- Provide access to water and a power socket
- Plan for the room to be out of use for a few days while it dries
What we do
We sheet up floors and anything left in the room, protect adjoining areas, and clear up as we go. Working clean and tidy is part of the job, not an extra.
